Michael Costello spring 2017 New York Fashion Week runway and beauty

Michael Costello sent his spring 2017 collection down the New York Fashion Week runway on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at the Skylight Moynihan in New York. The collection was dreamy, magical, and took us to a place where dreams are made. Yes, it was truly amazing!

I feel in love with the vibrant purples, sparkling fabrics, and extravagant ruffles. It was beautiful!

The pictures I took from my seat did not come out very well, so thankfully I have PR photos I can share with you, as well as all the fabulous beauty tips from backstage! I’m excited to share with you how to repeat the Michael Costello beauty look straight from the runway, at home! Love that!

The beauty look on Michael Costello’s spring 2017 runway at New York Fashion Week stressed each model’s natural beauty. The makeup artists created high intensity beauty looks which were layered, yet were done in the perfect colors to match each model’s individual skin tone. The result? A fabulous, natural yet intense, beauty look to covet for the upcoming spring season. Love!

Michael Costello’s spring/summer 2017 New York Fashion Week runway collection was “Midnight at the Botanical Bash.” The look was inspired by a dark garden soiree, with makeup focusing on a dark berry lip, bold, bronzed glossy eyes and natural skin.

“This season we really thought about how the natural beauty of a flower resembles that of a woman: Delicate, radiant, unique,” said designer Michael Costello. “The makeup speaks to our idea of how dark and moody is often glamorous, elegant and intriguing.”

How to get the Michael Costello spring 2017 runway beauty look at home:

Edward Cruz, lead makeup artist for INGLOT, created non-traditional, blended-out gold and berry eyes. He used Freedom System Eye Shadow Matte #296 and #299 from INGLOT’s new What A Spice! Collection ($7 each) as the base, and layered on deep gold #81 and berry sparkle #24 using AMC Pure Pigment Eye Shadow ($16 each).

Cruz layered matte, cranberry Lipstick Matte #438 ($15) with AMC Lip Paint #58 ($14) to create an opaque, berry ombre lip.

How to get the metallic ombre nail look from Michael Costello’s spring 2017 runway:

The nails on Michael Costello’s spring 2017 runway were done by Essie. They started with Essie First Base Base Coat, then applied Good as Gold, then, using a latex makeup wedge, Good as Gold, and Sole Mate were blended together in the second coat horizontally, and lightly. Working quickly, tap the wedge lightly on the nail creating an ombre look. Then top it off with Good To Go Top Coat.

With dark lips, purples, and ombre nails a hot trend now and into spring, these are great looks to recreate to wear this season, as well as into next year! I love how we can all wear a little spring 2017 before fall 2016 is in full swing. Love it! The products used for both the beauty looks, and the runway nails, can be found in the widget below. I can’t wait to try this at home! Let me know if you try it!

Day two of New York Fashion Week was a lot calmer than day one! I attended four shows, Issosy London (children’s clothing), Francesca Liberatore, Katie Gallagher, and Demoo Parkchoonmoo. My friend Dawn (who took these fabulous photos), and I had a chance to actually eat three meals, and walk around a little bit. Eating meals-what a luxury!

These black fringe booties have turned out to be so comfortable! They are made from a soft suede which helps add to the comfort level. I love the fringe on the side, it is both sassy and on trend. Love that! I cannot wait to wear these booties non-stop until the rainy season starts. And yes, I am very optimistic that God will give us rain in the Bay Area this year. It is time for that pesky drought to stop! But I digress. . .

After two days of shows, some spring 2017 trends are starting to pop up! Many designers seem to be favoring black and white combinations, metallic hues, green, pink, red, and soft autumnal hues. One color trend which is surprising me, is the continuation of blush! It seems like blush pink has been around for many seasons. I thought by now designers would tire of the ultra-feminine hue in favor of other shades from the color wheel, but it seems to still be going strong. Hang on to your blush pieces from 2016 ladies, it will still be hot in 2017!

In addition to color trends, designers seem to be favoring small floral prints, pattern mixing, texture, vertical stripes, decadent embellishments, twisted and tied fabrics; and a 1960s influence seems to be emerging. It will be interesting to see if these trends continue throughout fashion week, and if store buyers pick them up!

Stay tuned! Early next week I will give a full trend report straight from New York. I have hundreds of photos from the runways to sort through, and decipher. I can’t wait to identify some new trends for spring 2017 and share them with you!

Thanks for stopping by,

XOXO

Rebecca Minkoff fall 2016 New York Fashion Week

rebecca minkoff fall 2016 new york fashion week

Rebecca Minkoff sent her fall/winter 2016/2017 collection down her New York Fashion Week runway on Saturday, September 10, 2016; instead of her spring 2017. What???

Despite the September shows, during New York Fashion Week, showcasing designers spring 2017 collections, Rebecca Minkoff has shaken up the industry by showcasing her current, fall 2016 collection. To shake things up further, the models were a mixture of real people, and professional models. But, wait, that’s not all! The guest list included customers, media, bloggers, and real people, instead of the traditional industry guest list which normally features stylists, editors, buyers, and bloggers.

Rebecca Minkoff’s strategy was to ride the fashion week “hype” wave by allowing customers to shop directly from the runway, instead of waiting until February to purchase from the new collection. Genius! I wonder if it is working?

When I attended the show, I was grouped together with all of the invited bloggers. We were placed behind the customers, and celebrities, to watch the show; hence the waist-up photo I took above. Although it was hard to see, the vibe at the event was really fun. There was a live band, the models were smiling, and having a blast walking the runway; which I love!

Showcasing her current collection on the runway at fashion week was a smart move. I saw several items on Rebecca Minkoff’s runway I would love to purchase for fall, and since they are currently available, it will be easier for me buy them instead of forgetting about them in the next few months. If I feel this way, others must too! It will be interesting to see how this hot new concept turns out, and if other designers begin to follow suit over time.

To shop my favorite fall 2016 pieces from Rebecca Minkoff’s New York Fashion Week runway, please view the scroll bar below. If you like a runway item, simply click on it, and shop! Shop the runway, love that!
