Vivienne Hu sent her spring 2018 collection down the New York Fashion Week runway on September 10, 2017 at the Skylight Clarkson in New York. It was a chic yet light and airy collection featuring all-white, city-chic looks paired with classic handbags which were both functional, and  fashion-forward. Love!

There was a certain sophistication to Vivienne Hu’s spring 2018 collection which elevated the way a woman should dress this upcoming warm weather season. The pieces were perfect for the office, or mixed and matched for fundraiser luncheons, brunch, dinner, the theater, or weekend activities. The overall vibe of the collection was chic, sleek, and sophisticated. Love!

Vivienne Hu managed to incorporate spring 2018’s trends into her collection with understated flair pants, cropped tops, and peek-a-boo, cold shoulders. The all-white, and all-black looks on her runway were timeless yet modern; making them ideal for anyone’s closet.

My apologies for my photo quality, I did my best to capture my favorite looks from between heads 😉 The black suit and the off-the-shoulder look are my favorites from the runway, which look is your favorite? You can see the entire collection in my iPhone final walk video below.

One of my favorite runways to see when I attend New York Fashion Week is the Academy of Art University’s collections. When I was a student at the University of San Francisco, we socialized with the kids from the Academy of Art in San Francisco, so I have always felt a tie to the school. As one of the most world renowned art schools, I am also proud to say it is located right here in the Bay Area. I love seeing the fresh take on fashion that students from the University produce. They are the future of the fashion industry. Seeing their show, is getting a glimpse into the future of what emerging designers will create for us to wear.

For the spring 2018, and fall 2018 seasons, the Academy of Art University showcased ten emerging designers from both the BFA and MFA programs. The designers took their inspiration from the world around them; including San Francisco’s own landscape.

The designers from the Academy of Art University who showed at New York Fashion Week included; Hailun Zhou, Eden Slzin, Dina Marie Lam, Carlos Rodriguez, Rheanna Oliver-Palanca, Saya Shen, Joanna Jadallah, Cana Klebanoff, Ryan Yu, and Jelly Shan.

“Every year our designers have shown an amazing showcase of their talent and this year is no exception. This group has crafted each collection, and every piece within their collection has its own unique identity,” comments Jayne Foster, Graduate Director of Fashion. “They have stayed true to their vision and pushed their creative process into collections that show exploration of silhouette and textile techniques. These are the designers who will inspire and lead the next generation of new creatives. It has been a privilege to work with them.”

While the spring 2018, and fall 2018 collections offer an artistic take on fashion, they do reflect what we see trending in the world of fashion for the upcoming year. Hot trends for 2018, spotted on the Academy of Art’s runway include; black/white, geometric silhouettes, silver/metallic, knits, prints, suiting, and the emergence of one piece dressing for men.

My trip to New York Fashion Week was shorter this season then usual. I have stepped up to be troop leader for my daughter’s Girl Scout troop, and everything seemed to happen the week of fashion week. I was required to be home, to lead the troop, for service unit activities and to kick off the new scout year.

Thankfully, I was able to get to New York for the weekend shows. Although I watch many shows via You Tube, there is nothing like seeing the clothing on the runway. When I can see the fabrics, stitching, and movement of the silhouettes up close, it is easier for me to report on the collections, and incoming trends, for you.

These are the shows I was so thankful to be able to attend. I will share my favorite look from each collection. In some cases, I was only able to get a final walk video on my phone. My seating ranges from front row to standing room, so depending on where I was placed, results in the quality of photos I can show you.

Day one: I woke up at 4am and drove with my friend Dawn from Fashion Should Be Fun to the airport for a 7am flight. I landed at 3:30pm in New York, caught a Taxi, checked into the hotel, and jammed over to my first show at 6pm. It was an exhausting, but productive day!

Day two: This was a heavy schedule! I saw five shows and attended the rewardStyle rooftop party where I met up with fellow bloggers. I arrived late after a show, and left early to get to another show. It was a whirlwind!

Day three: This was a heavy schedule too. I attended seven shows; it would have been eight but I had a logistical issue getting to one. Yikes!

I also attended Rinat Brodach but was unable to get photos or video due to the lighting at the presentation. The CAAFD Showcase is the one I missed due to logistics. Many of the shows are spread apart throughout lower Manhattan, so it isn’t always easy to get from show to show; especially if one runs late; and they always run late. It was a whirlwind trip and so much fun! I will definitely be bringing you more NYFW coverage, as well as continuing to talk about our present fall season.

Thanks for stopping by!

XOXO
