Duquesne Incline in Pittsburgh

When I found out there was a steep incline in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I had to check it out! After all, here in San Francisco we are very familiar with steep hills, I just didn’t realize other states had them too! haha, Call me provincial!

So, in Pittsburgh PA, they have a couple historic inclines which were built in the late 1800’s to help workers get from the train to their homes up a very steep hill. We decided to ride on the Duquesne Incline which has a parking lot at the bottom of the hill where you can see where the three rivers meet. Of course, the view from the top of the incline is even better!

The ride was really fun, and it was only $5 round trip per person: cash only. We loved the historic finishes on the incline and seeing the working museum with historic machinery that keeps the incline running smoothly. Love!

At the top of the incline, there is a viewing area where you can see a fabulous view of Pittsburgh and also where the Steelers play. Of course, I still say “Go Niners!” haha, but I digress. . .

We enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Steel Mill Saloon where I enjoyed a mushroom and Swiss burger. It was really good; I highly recommend it!

The ride back down the incline was fun and it was nice to see the view a second time. If you are ever in the Pittsburgh area, I highly recommend taking a ride on the Duquesne Incline! It’s so much fun and a mini-history lesson! Love that!

Thanks for stopping by, and stay tuned for more from my trip to Pennsylvania!
