New York Fashion Week SS16

New York Fashion Week spring/summer 2016 is here! As you read this, I am on a plane from the San Francisco Bay Area to the Big Apple. I have lightweight, fall clothing packed in my bag, shoes I can run from show to show in, beauty products to keep me from being a shiny mirror, and a handbag which doubles as a camera case. All set! (wondering what I packed? Scroll down for details)

For the spring/summer 2016 shows, New York Fashion Week will be quite different than it has been over the past few seasons. New York Fashion Week is moving from it’s former home at Lincoln Center, to two Skylight locations; the Skylight Clarkson Square, and the Skylight at Moynihan Station.

Instead of a Mercedes-Benz parked in the lobby, Lexus will be the new automotive sponsor. The biggest change of all, is the fact that the shows will be spread out; they are no long centralized.

Some may argue two locations is still considered centralized. I will argue that it is far from centralized. When I look at my schedule for New York Fashion Week, I see myself going from 33rd street, down to 21st street, to Chelsea Piers, to Milk Studios, to streets without numbers, and streets in the teens. There are a few shows in mid-town, and one uptown. I think I might need a hover-craft to get around!

I am excited to see the new runway spaces, since they will allow designers more autonomy as far design is concerned. These new spaces are true blank canvasses. It should be interesting to see how designers relate the interior design of their shows to their spring/summer 2016 collections. I am expecting more of a connection in design than we have seen in the tents during past seasons.

The locations for the spring/summer 2016 shows will include the Skylight at Moynihan Station, which offers a large stage, The Arc, and a medium sized stage, The Dock. The Skylight Clarkson Square will offer a medium sized stage named The Gallery, and a small stage named the The Space. There will also be shows at Chelsea Piers, Milk Studios (MADE Fashion Week now owned by IMG), the Art Beam, and several galleries, as well as hotels.

I am looking forward to bringing the beautiful designs from New York to you over the course of the next week. I will be seeing both established, and emerging designers which should provide an excellent snapshot of spring 2016!

I will also be working with a fabulous fashion photographer who will capture some of the shows for Bay Area Fashionista! His name is Justin Nunez and he is amazing! Be sure to check out his website, JustinNunez.com and follow him on social media!

Laura Adney from Have-Need-Want and I will be traveling together too, so be sure to check out her website and follow her.

Join me on Instagram to follow my trip, and the beautiful spring fashions from the New York Fashion Week runways! Coverage of the shows will also appear here on my website. Cheers to spring 2016!
