wearing: bold gold earrings / blue animal print sunglasses (under $30!!) / lipstick / black fitted short sleeve tee / orange leopard print slip dress (under $100) / black leather rose gold watch / fall nail polish / black ring / black  mini satchel (under $300!) / distressed leather western style booties / moto jacket (also avl in plus sizes and under $100!) (I’m wearing L instead of M so that I have room for thicker fabrics in the cooler months)

This dress is orange! Can you believe it? This might be the first orange item I have ever purchased. It really isn’t a color I normally gravitate towards. That being said, there was something about this dress that made orange seem understated rather than loud. Perhaps that’s why I felt like I needed it in my closet for fall.

I originally purchased this orange leopard print slip dress to wear at New York Fashion Week. It would have been perfect on that really hot day when temperatures and humidity soured over ninety degrees. When I wore it the other day, I felt a little sad putting on the dress with the same accessories I had planned to wear in New York. I guess I am still a little down about missing fashion week; plus, I still don’t have clearance from my doctor to go back to working out, or lifting heavy items. So, I am still in surgery-recovery-jail, if there is such a thing. But I digress. . .

This dress has turned out to be perfect for our fall weather. I can top it off with a faux leather jacket while the fog is in, then take off the jacket while the sun shines, and brings temperatures above eighty degrees. It’s great for transitioning from warm to cool weather! Love that!

Wearing a slip dress over a tee reminds me so much of  college. It really was a hot and huge trend in the early to mid 1990s. My friends and I used to wear this style all the time! Plus, moto jackets were popular back then too, so the entire look, minus the boots, reminds me of my undergrad days. If I remember correctly, my shoes would have more in the platform boot realm; and black, definitely black!

Are there any current trends out right now which remind you of another time? Do you believe it’s OK to re-wear a trend, or do you feel once you wear a trend, you can’t re-wear it? I know a lot of people who refuse to re-wear a trend! I would love to know what you think!

Volume sleeves and stripes for fall

wearing: bold gold earrings / lipstick / stripe wrap top (on major sale!) / flare jeans (under $100!!) / black ring / fall nail polish / black handbag (under $300!) / boots /

So, I fell in love with this wrap top earlier this month, and thought it would be perfect for the season. After my surgery, I lost some weight, and now this top is really big on me! That’s what I get for waiting a few weeks to wear something. haha To top things off, it wrinkled up on the car ride before we took these photos; so my apologies for the wrinkles-I really did iron it on the morning I wore it!

Despite the top being a bit too big, and having a few wrinkles, I am in love with it! The fabric is smooth and comfortable in the fall weather. I love the stripes, and mildly voluminous sleeves. It fits into the current autumn trends without looking costumy. Love that! Also, who doesn’t love a dramatic bow?! I love the large wrap belt on this top, it’s really fun!

This striped wrap top has a 1970s vibe, so I decided to pair it with my new flare jeans for an overall vintage, 1970s look. The 70’s is my favorite fashion decade, so anytime I can emulate the vibe, I go for it! Wrap dresses, wrap tops, flares, and big sunglasses are all trends from the 1970s that I love. I don’t care if teeny, tiny sunglasses turn into a thing someday; I will still wear oversized, big sunglasses. I love how they look, and how they hide my big cheeks. haha

While this look has definite 1970s inspiration; stripes, multi-color pieces, and large sleeves are very on trend this fall 2018 season. This top encompasses all of them! Love that! Plus, it’s on major sale-also something to love about it!

Fall 2018 shoe trends: kitten heels

fall 2018 shoe trends kitten heels

Fall 2018 shoe trends kitten heels from top left: black ankle pump / white kitten heel bootie (under $150!) / blue and black bow tie mule / grey animal print bootie (under $200!) / leopard print kitten heel bootie (under $250!) / black kitten heel bootie with small studs /

Theeeeeeeeey’re baaaaaaa-aaaaack! That’s right! Those tiny little skinny heels are back, and they are everywhere for the fall 2018 season. Meow!

If you have started to shop for fall 2018 shoes, you may have noticed a trend in both heel height and shape. You are not hallucinating, the kitten heel has returned for the fall season, leaving fashionistas slighter shorter this season. Where is my free height? Short girl over here asking for some inches! (See me waving my hand high and fast! No? Must be my kitten heels keeping me short, I need some height!)

Despite the fact that kitten heels only provide one inch of height at most, they are actually comfortable as long as you don’t mind balancing on a stiletto width heel. Kitten heels don’t put very much pressure on the balls of your foot, and they have just enough height to provide a bit of arch support. They are a great alternative to flats this season; especially if you are like me, and try to avoid flats at all costs.

I purchased a pair of white kitten heel booties and they are a great option when I don’t want to wear my high heel booties. I also love the 1950s vintage vibe kitten heels provide. We haven’t rocked a lot of 1950s trends lately, so it’s refreshing to take something from that decade and make it new again.

The kitten heel is being found on all of the fall 2018 shoe trends right now. You can find them on boots, booties, mules, pumps, and slides. Put a bow on the mules or add an animal print to the booties, and you have an IT item of the season. Love that!

I love kitten heels on booties, but when it comes to pumps, I prefer a higher heel. What is your take on kitten heels? Will you rock this fall 2018 shoe trend or will you skip it? What is your favorite shoe style with a kitten heel this season?
