Ways to reduce stress

ways to reduce stress manage stress

Ways to reduce stress: Things which help manage stress levels from top left: A fun mug for decaf tea before bedtime / “Zumba” home workout routines to get moving at home and reduce stress / cozy blanket throw to snuggle up in while relaxing before bedtime / paper planner for getting re-organized (this is the planner I own, and I love it!) /  yoga mat for stress reducing exercise / sneakers for looking cool while talking a stress reducing walk

If you find your life is busy, stressful, and hard to manage, then welcome to the family! I am always looking for new ways to reduce stress in my life. As a working Mother of three who home-schools, and volunteers in the community, I have a lot of balls in the air.

In order to manage stress without drinking alcohol, or using any vices, one needs to get creative! If you search online for ways to reduce stress, often times the articles will give advice about meditating, taking deep breaths, and similar new-age type tips. If you are like me, these new-age tips are completely worthless. I don’t do meditation. I don’t listen to tapes with ocean sounds, and I certainly don’t sit crossed-legged taking deep breaths. No sir-re bob!

As an active person, I need active and calming practices to help me reduce stress; as well as time management. In order to juggle running a business, home-schooling two kids, juggling three schedules for three children, keeping my house in order, and maintaining my two, big volunteer jobs, I have created my five tips to managing stress. These work for me! I hope you like them and find them helpful!

5 ways to reduce stress in life

  1. Exercise: OK, I am sure you have heard this before, but exercise is my favorite way to manage my stress level. When you exercise, you release endorphins which helps to keep your spirits up. Exercising actually creates energy, making it easier to get through your busy day. My favorite stress-relieving exercises include Cardio Kickboxing (imagine punching things that stress you out), Spin Classes (spin out the stress!), and Cardio dance classes (nothing like getting lost in the rhythm and the music!).
  2. Get Organized: This may sound like a no-brainer, but sometimes we need to reorganize our personal organization systems. Try switching from an electronic to-do list to a paper planner, or vise-versa. Sometimes just using a new organizational system can makes things seem more simple. I use a paper planner with my daily schedule and to-do list. This helps me organize by the day, week, and month. If one day seems too busy, you can easily switch things up. I think a paper planner is easier to see at a glance versus using an app. I also like being able to take my pen and check things off after they are done.
  3. Relax at least one hour before bed: I don’t know about you, but I cannot get my much-needed sleep if I work up until bedtime. One hour before I go to sleep I zone out in front of the television. This is also a great time to chat on the phone with a friend, catch up with your friends on social media, or listen to music. Don’t do anything productive or your mind will still be spinning when you try to go to sleep.
  4. Schedule “Me Time:” When you work, raise children, and juggle everyday life, sometimes it can be hard to remember to schedule time with your friends, or to schedule alone time. What is fun and relaxing for you? Is it meeting a friend for lunch during a busy day? Is it strolling through the mall with your friends? Is it taking a long walk alone? Make sure you have at least one planned “me time” during the week, every week. It will help keep you sane.
  5. Stay away from addictive substances and sugar: No joke. Caffeine can make you jittery and elevate your heart rate when you are under stress. Alcohol can cause all sorts of headaches when you are stressed out; and I don’t just mean a hangover. Do I even need to mention why cigarettes cause stress even thought you think they calm you down? Just say no. Stay away from anything addictive. Sugar too! Sugar can make you tired, less productive, and groggy. There is no place for a lot of sugar in a busy day. Save sweet treats for your rest days; in moderation of course.

These are the ways I reduce stress in my life, and I manage my stress levels. What are some ways you manage stress in your busy lives?

Gucci Marmont Lady Bag review

gucci marmont lady bag spring 2018gucci marmont lady bag review

Ah, the infamous Gucci Marmont handbag. The Gucci Marmont handbag has been gaining popularity over the last few seasons, and by last spring, it started to push ahead of it’s sister, the Gucci Dionysus, as the IT bag du jour.

So, saying Gucci is having a moment, is the understatement of the year. While Gucci has been having a moment for a couple of years now, it is showing no signs of slowing down. Gucci is the IT designer du jour. There is no designer out there which is showing any sort of effort to knock the crown off of Gucci.

My favorite Gucci Marmont handbags:

Everything Gucci is hot. I. mean. everything! While the hottest Gucci items of the moment include the Gucci Marmont, the Gucci Princeton mules, and the Gucci logo belt, anything with Gucci’s name on it is hotter then hot.

I have been eyeing the Gucci Marmont since last year. After the holidays last year, I almost purchased the black and white striped version of the shoulder bag, but I ended up talking myself out of because it looked too much like my Chanel bags. Despite the fact that I talked myself out of the bag, I still eyed the Gucci Marmont until this season, when Gucci released their spring 2018 collection and it included this beautiful white Lady Bag with a detachable shoulder strap. Love!

One of the biggest trends in handbags for spring 2018 is the white handbag. Also, one of the biggest silhouette trends in handbags this year is the lady bag. In addition, quilted bags are getting more popular as more, and more, designers release their own interpretations of Chanel’s iconic quilted handbag collection.

Since I knew I wanted a white handbag which could fit everything pictured above, I instantly knew the Gucci Marmont Lady Bag was my bag for spring 2018! The Gucci Marmont Lady Bag comes in two sizes; small and medium. This post features the small size. Even with with everything pictured above inside the small sized Gucci Marmont Lady Bag, there is still plenty of extra room for a pair of gloves, a bag of snacks for the kids, and more!

The Gucci Marmont Lady Bag is made from strong calf leather which is scratch resistant; a bonus for those of us with kids! The outside also features one top handle, and a detachable shoulder strap. The closure is a little tricky, but easy to use once you realize it is not the common magnetic closure we are used to with other designer bags. The Gucci Marmont Lady Bag features a latch which you push up to release the flap, and open your bag.

The Interior of the bag features a zipper pocket, large main compartment, and a slip pocket which is perfect for your iPhone. I was impressed to see how the lining of the Gucci Marmont handbag is extremely high quality. The interior lining is made from strong Ultrasuede which adds a soft, luxurious feeling to the already luxurious bag. Love that!

The quilting on this handbag offers more then the typical square or linear quilting other designers are showing. The Marmont collection offers chevron quilting on the top flap, and back of the bag; while the bottom of the front of the bag offers semi-circle quilts. Another nice touch to the Gucci Marmont handbag collection is the quilted heart found on the back of the handbag. This sweet little touch adds something special to the bag; and my daughters think it is the best thing ever! They really love hearts 🙂

As far as longevity is concerned, the Gucci Marmont ticks almost all of the boxes to qualify as a classic handbag style. Quilted handbags are considered classic, thanks to Chanel, and the Gucci Marmont collection is proving to popular among consumers in all styles; not just one bag from the collection. The Lady Bag is a classic handbag style which never goes out of style; it just enjoys IT status every few years, without ever falling out of favor.

The detachable shoulder strap adds versatility to the bag, allowing it to be worn casually with the strap, or dressier without the strap. The two-bags-in-one factor makes the Gucci Marmont a good buy; even at luxury prices!

I am in love with my Gucci Marmont Lady Bag, and am kicking myself for not buying one sooner. I love how this bag offers a soft body without looking sloppy. So many unstructured satchels look floppy and sloppy. This beautiful handbag does not lose it’s shape, despite the fact that it is soft.

Winter workout routine and New Year fitness changes

New Year fitness gear wishlist: black sweatshirt / sky print sports bra / Nike running shoes / gym backpack / sky print leggings

Can you believe we are ten days into the new year! With the new year, comes new goals and resolutions. If you missed it last week, you can read about mine here. One of my goals was to stay on track with my workout schedule. The fall season was especially challenging when I hurt my neck, and then decided to home-school my son, in addition to my middle child. My entire routine was thrown for a loop!

When you have an injury, and a life change, there is suddenly new stress. I was stressed because I couldn’t do my five workouts per week, and I was stressed out because I had to add a 4th grade curriculum to my already busy 6th grade home-school curriculum. I suddenly found myself teaching long division to my son, and how to solve equations with two variables to my daughter, at the same time. Oh my! It’s tough juggling two curriculum’s.

Thankfully, I can say with confidence that I have my routine down pat now; and since my neck injury is healed, I have been back on track with my fitness routine! Yay!

Since my days are really full with home-schooling and work, I have to be more flexible when it comes to my workout routine. Here is my new routine for the New Year, and winter season:

Mondays: BodyCombat  (cardio)

Tuesday: Spin Class (cardio-internval)

Wednesday: Home workout. 30 minutes cardio, 30 minutes strength

Thursday: Rest day

Friday: Insanity (Interval-Strength)

Saturday: BodyPump and Step or treadmill and weights; depending on my kids schedule

Sunday: Family fitness activity outside. Hiking, etc.

This is my ideal winter workout schedule, of course, my schedule can get crazy, and I may miss a class here or there. On days when I miss a class, I do a treadmill workout, or a home workout I designed for myself.

My home workout includes 30 minutes of cardio, and 30 minutes of strength exercises. It is great on days when I am pressed for time and need to squeeze in my workout at funny times during the day. I can even split it up; do the cardio in the morning, then the strength later in the day. Sometimes you have to be creative when your life is a giant juggle!

What are you doing for workouts this winter season?
