Faux fur is a huge trend for the fall 2017 season. It was splashed all over the fall/winter 2017/18 runways, and it is taking the streets by storm. This is one runway-to-the-streets trend which cannot be ignored.

I love faux fur fall 2017. The faux fur coats, and faux fur jackets, we are seeing for the fall 2017 season are lighthearted, fun, soft, and so very cozy! There is absolutely no reason to seek out real fur, faux fur has so many more options, is just as soft and cozy, costs less then real fur, and no animals are harmed in the making of it. Love that!

The faux fur fall 2017 trend is two-fold; when it comes to coats, look for styles which hit around the knee. If you are looking more for a faux fur jacket, look for shorter styles which hit at the belt. You may also start to see shoulder pads inside faux fur coats, and faux fur jackets, this fall 2017 season. The 80’s are starting to creep into pockets of fashion, so be on the lookout for powerful, but never exaggerated, shoulders.

Styles of faux fur coats, and faux fur jackets, for the fall 2017 season range from classic, luxurious black, to avant-garde and playful prints, chevron patterns, stripes, and bold hues. Why not brighten up a dreary fall or winter day with a brightly colored, faux fur coat!? Love!

There are faux fur coats and faux fur jackets in all price ranges this autumn season. You can find many styles starting around $100, and for designer labels, you will see faux fur well above $1000. For a good quality, soft, warm and cozy faux fur cover-up, I would recommend looking around in the $250 price range; and up. I have noticed some of the styles under $250 may shed. If you happen upon a faux fur coat or jacket which sheds, you can store it in the freezer overnight before wearing it. This usually helps keep the shedding to a minimum.

Faux fur fall 2017 can be worn casually, or dressed up. This is a great trend because you can invest in one fabulous coat, and wear it for any occasion! Faux fur can be worn with jeans, or over a cocktail dress; it is so versatile! With jackets, the versatility is limited. If you go for a faux fur jacket which has a moto or stadium jacket cut, then it may be too casual to pair with an evening ensemble. If you are looking for something to wear for any occasion, I would recommend a coat versus a jacket. BUT, if you want something on trend, for casual days, a jacket is a great way to go. It is up to you and how you think you will wear it this fall season.

Here are a few faux fur jackets and faux fur coats around the web, you can shop now. I hope you love them!

Happy shopping, and stay fabulous 😉

How to wear velvet during the day

how to wear velvet during the day casual daytime velvet how to wear velvet during the daysilver boots for fall 2017

wearing: silver oval earrings / Chanel lipstick / navy velvet tee / distressed boyfriend jeans (old, similar here) / Givenchy bagfall nail polish / black leather and silver watch / silver boots (so comfy!-last seen here)

Wondering how to wear velvet during the day this fall season? It’s easy! Velvet is such a hot trend this autumn, and it can elevate an otherwise basic casual, daytime look, into something fabulous.

When I was at fashion week last month, I wore velvet booties in order to add the velvet trend to one of my outfits. They were really comfortable, and easy to wear while standing, and walking all day. I found my velvet booties turned out to be easy to wear back home too. They look amazing with jeans! After wearing a navy blazer last year, and continually wearing my velvet booties this year, I decided to add more velvet to my daytime fall wardrobe.

This velvet tee turned out to be a great way to wear velvet on casual days. As an alternative to my velvet booties, this velvet tee can be worn with jeans, or a skirt, for multiple looks this season. I photographed myself wearing this tee with my comfy and casual boyfriend jeans. This was a really comfortable outfit which was perfect for the moderate fall temperatures we have been enjoying the last few days. I love the flared sleeve, and boxy silhouette, of the tee. So fun!

My silver booties were my way of pushing my style a little bit out of my conservative comfort zone for fashion week. I am so glad I took the silver booties plunge! Not only are they eye catching and fun, these booties are extremely comfortable! I can walk for miles and miles in them. Love! There is something edgy yet luxurious about mixing silver and velvet together for daytime outfits.

There you have it! My way of solving the fall dilemma of how to wear velvet during the day this autumn season. How do you plan to wear velvet this fall season?

Crab Macaroni and Cheese recipe

Have you ever wondered how to make crab macaroni and cheese? Well, it’s really easy! If you love comfort food, and you love shellfish, and you love mac and cheese, then this is the dish for you!

I love, love, love macaroni and cheese. I also love Crab! Together, they make a grown-up version of every kid’s favorite meal from a box; without the box, and using real cheese.

In order to make my Crab Macaroni and Cheese at home, I use my personal macaroni and cheese recipe, then I add crab. It’s really easy. If you prefer substituting something in lieu of the crab, you can switch out the crab for lobster or shrimp. They both result in really yummy, grown up versions of macaroni and cheese! Yum!

how to make crab macaroni and cheese

How to make Crab Macaroni and Cheese. Start off by making homemade macaroni and cheese. Here is my recipe:

Cathy’s homemade macaroni and cheese recipe:

  • 1 lb. box of Barilla Elbow pasta cooked (you can use any brand-this is my preferred brand)
  • 16 oz. shredded Kraft Extra Sharp Cheddar cheese.
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika

Mix together the cooked pasta, Paprika, and shredded cheese. Place mixture in a large casserole. Cover and bake at 375 degrees, non-convection, for 25 minutes.

While the macaroni and cheese is baking, you can cook your crab mixture. You will need:

  • 1 lb. crab (shelled) (I buy it pre-shelled from the butcher) (Sub: lobster or small shrimp if you prefer)
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup pure virgin olive oil (the real stuff tastes best!)
  • 3 crushed garlic cloves
  • 1/4 cup chopped or diced onion (cut to your preference-I prefer diced)
  • 1 tablespoon Paprika

In a mixing bowl, mix all of these ingredients together until they are blended. Pour mixture into a medium saucepan and cook until the crab is done, and the butter is nicely melted.

After 25 minutes in the oven, remove the macaroni and cheese casserole, but leave your oven on, and the door closed. Uncover the macaroni and cheese. Smooth your crab mixture over the top of the macaroni and cheese. I always leave a section bare because my oldest daughter doesn’t like fish, so she only eats the plain macaroni and cheese. You can cover half, like I do, or you can put shrimp on one side, and crab on the other. The mixture is large enough to cover the entire top if you decide to not leave a portion blank.

When the top of the macaroni and cheese is covered by the crab mixture, cover the casserole dish and bake at 375 for another 10 minutes.

Before you serve the Crab Macaroni and Cheese, please let it cool for 5-10 minutes in the covered casserole dish, outside the oven. I leave the casserole on my cooktop. Then, serve it up!

My kids love my homemade Crab Macaroni and Cheese, I hope you do too! It is a delicious comfort food which is perfect for cooler weather. ‘Tis the season for comfort food!

This is also a great dish to make for holiday pot luck parties, or if you are throwing a large party at home. Although I serve it as a main course to my family, for a large party, it can be a hearty side dish in a buffet.

I hope you enjoy it. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
