Breast Cancer is the second largest killer of women in the United States behind heart disease. It’s something we are still searching for a cure for. Many women would be hard-pressed to admit that breast cancer hasn’t affected them in some way, shape, or form, during the course of their lifetime. I know several women who have suffered from breast cancer in their 40’s; and one woman in her early 30s.

My grandmother died of breast cancer when my mom was nine years old. She was sick for five years, and my mom, as a young child, had to endure the pain of watching her mother slowly die. I wouldn’t wish this pain on anyone. It has affected my mom her whole life, and she has never fully recovered from the pain. This is why I find breast cancer so scary, and it is why I feel it is extremely important that we try and support the fight to find a cure.

Whether you support an organization that promotes awareness or research; any type of support helps us in the fight to find a cure. Breast Cancer Awareness is important because it educates people. Through education, women know how to self examine, and understand the importance of annual mammograms. Early detection is key in surviving this ugly disease.

Of course, any type of research towards finding a cure is vital in the fight against breast cancer; or any type of cancer for that matter. The more we raise awareness, and the more we help the research community, the closer we get to finding a cure for breast cancer.

I love finding products which donate  a percentage of sales to breast cancer research or awareness groups. If I need something, why not purchase the item knowing a percentage of what I spend will go for a cause I believe in? Elemis skin care is my go-to, so this travel kit is something I need for traveling, or for my gym bag. I love that something I would have bought anyway will benefit the fight against breast cancer. I am also a huge fan of Bobbi Brown lipsticks, and Estee Lauder’s Night Repair. These are products I always have in my beauty bag, so why not buy the pink versions which help the fight? Love!

If you don’t need anything right now, or you aren’t shopping for the holidays quite yet, I beg you to donate to your favorite breast cancer awareness and/or research charity. Even if you only have $1 to give, that will help. Just think, what if everyone in the United States gave just $1 towards the fight against breast cancer. That would raise about $325.7 million for the fight against breast cancer. Amazing right?

I also love what Chico’s corporation is doing in the fight against breast cancer. You can read about it here.

Orange leopard print slip dress

slip dress trend moto jacket trend fall 2018 slip dresses for fall 2018faux leather moto jacket vegan leather moto jackethow to make a slip dress modest

wearing: bold gold earrings / blue animal print sunglasses (under $30!!) / lipstick / black fitted short sleeve tee / orange leopard print slip dress (under $100) / black leather rose gold watch / fall nail polish / black ring / black  mini satchel (under $300!) / distressed leather western style booties / moto jacket (also avl in plus sizes and under $100!) (I’m wearing L instead of M so that I have room for thicker fabrics in the cooler months)

This dress is orange! Can you believe it? This might be the first orange item I have ever purchased. It really isn’t a color I normally gravitate towards. That being said, there was something about this dress that made orange seem understated rather than loud. Perhaps that’s why I felt like I needed it in my closet for fall.

I originally purchased this orange leopard print slip dress to wear at New York Fashion Week. It would have been perfect on that really hot day when temperatures and humidity soured over ninety degrees. When I wore it the other day, I felt a little sad putting on the dress with the same accessories I had planned to wear in New York. I guess I am still a little down about missing fashion week; plus, I still don’t have clearance from my doctor to go back to working out, or lifting heavy items. So, I am still in surgery-recovery-jail, if there is such a thing. But I digress. . .

This dress has turned out to be perfect for our fall weather. I can top it off with a faux leather jacket while the fog is in, then take off the jacket while the sun shines, and brings temperatures above eighty degrees. It’s great for transitioning from warm to cool weather! Love that!

Wearing a slip dress over a tee reminds me so much of  college. It really was a hot and huge trend in the early to mid 1990s. My friends and I used to wear this style all the time! Plus, moto jackets were popular back then too, so the entire look, minus the boots, reminds me of my undergrad days. If I remember correctly, my shoes would have more in the platform boot realm; and black, definitely black!

Are there any current trends out right now which remind you of another time? Do you believe it’s OK to re-wear a trend, or do you feel once you wear a trend, you can’t re-wear it? I know a lot of people who refuse to re-wear a trend! I would love to know what you think!

Volume sleeves and stripes for fall

statement sleeves fall 2018 statement sleeves fall 2018stripes fall 2018 stripes fall 2018

wearing: bold gold earrings / lipstick / stripe wrap top (on major sale!) / flare jeans (under $100!!) / black ring / fall nail polish / black handbag (under $300!) / boots /

So, I fell in love with this wrap top earlier this month, and thought it would be perfect for the season. After my surgery, I lost some weight, and now this top is really big on me! That’s what I get for waiting a few weeks to wear something. haha To top things off, it wrinkled up on the car ride before we took these photos; so my apologies for the wrinkles-I really did iron it on the morning I wore it!

Despite the top being a bit too big, and having a few wrinkles, I am in love with it! The fabric is smooth and comfortable in the fall weather. I love the stripes, and mildly voluminous sleeves. It fits into the current autumn trends without looking costumy. Love that! Also, who doesn’t love a dramatic bow?! I love the large wrap belt on this top, it’s really fun!

This striped wrap top has a 1970s vibe, so I decided to pair it with my new flare jeans for an overall vintage, 1970s look. The 70’s is my favorite fashion decade, so anytime I can emulate the vibe, I go for it! Wrap dresses, wrap tops, flares, and big sunglasses are all trends from the 1970s that I love. I don’t care if teeny, tiny sunglasses turn into a thing someday; I will still wear oversized, big sunglasses. I love how they look, and how they hide my big cheeks. haha

While this look has definite 1970s inspiration; stripes, multi-color pieces, and large sleeves are very on trend this fall 2018 season. This top encompasses all of them! Love that! Plus, it’s on major sale-also something to love about it!
