Plaid is a huge trend this fall 2019 season, so I knew it was something I wanted to rock at New York Fashion Week. I didn’t want to do wear a menswear look, or attempt to wear plaid pants; which make me look fat-let’s just admit it. So, when I spotted this comfortable yet very plaid dress, I knew it was the perfect way to rock the plaid trend without adding girth to my frame.

This dress turned out to be so comfortable! The top is a cotton blend which is soft and breathable; perfect for New York’s humidity. I loved the layered plaid fabric, and pretend arm tie around the waist. I decided to give it some fashion week, street style edge, by pairing the dress with sneakers. Now, this is fashion week, so I wasn’t going to pair it with my cardio kickboxing sneakers, oh no, these sneakers had to be fashion week appropriate. Enter Gucci. . .

So when I spotted this pair of fall 2019 Gucci sneakers, I knew they would be my workhorse shoe of fashion week. It’s always good to have fashionable, yet comfortable, shoes on hand for busy days of running to shows. These sneakers encompassed two fall 2019 shoe trends; lug platforms, and mis-matched. Yes, you read that right, mis-matched.

There is a huge trend right now to wear mis-matched shoes. People around the globe are wearing the same shoe, in two different colors. I am not sure if they come like that, or if people are buying the same shoe in two colors; nevertheless, mis-matched feet were everywhere on the streets of New York Fashion Week. My version of the trend was a bit more, shall we say, understated?

These Gucci sneakers had one green back, and one red back. That’s all. Nothing crazy. Just a tiny touch of a crazy trend. I don’t think anyone who saw my shoes even noticed the backs were different. Haha

I wore these sneakers almost every day. They were really comfy, and kept my feet happy throughout fashion week. Love that!

Stay tuned to seeing more of this dress as fall progresses. I plan to pair with boots and a jacket. It’s my favorite dress of the season!

Vintage inspiration at New York Fashion Week spring 2020

The last model has walked off the runways of New York Fashion Week, and we are left with so many trends to get excited about for next year. One of my favorite trends every season comes from vintage inspiration. It is always amazing to see which decades inspired designers for the season.

For the spring/summer 2020 season, designers were in love with the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. We saw a lot of Hollywood glamour, sparkle and shine from the Studio 54 era, feminine touches from the 50’s, sleek and chic 40’s looks, as well as playful and fun 60’s styles. Here are a few highlights from some of the New York Fashion Week runways I attended reflecting the spring 2020 decades of inspiration:

Which one of spring 2020’s decades of inspiration inspire you? I am definitely feeling the 40’s and 70’s, although, I am forever feeling the 70’s, so that’s no surprise. Haha

Vintage inspired with Chico’s at New York Fashion Week

One of the big trends I noticed on the spring 2020 runways was vintage inspiration from the 50’s, 60’s, and 90’s. Although we have barely touched the fall season, it is always fun to see which trends will reach well into the next year; and vintage inspiration is one of them!

When I spotted this mixed print, polka dot skirt at Chico’s for the fall season, I knew I needed I build a vintage inspired look around it. Chico’s has a fabulous selection of print scarves for fall, so I thought a contrasting print neckerchief tied 90’s style would do the trick. After all, 90210 has been revived, so aren’t we all feeling a little nostalgic for the 90’s?

I’m a sucker for a good black top which can pair with anything in my closet, so this understated black twist top looked perfect for tying the look together. I love how it looks amazing with this skirt, and also with jeans and sneakers. It’s definitely going to be my go-to black top this fall!

Now, isn’t fashion week all about pushing the limits of style? Of course! So I had to snap up these fun black and white sunglasses from Chico’s too. They added the perfect amount of pizzazz to my New York Fashion Week look. This was so much fun to wear to the runways! I loved mixing vintage inspiration from multiple decades, it’s a fun look.

I also wore this scarf around my ponytail with another outfit during the week, and the sunglasses were worn with every outfit except one. Chico’s has such great mix-and-match  pieces, they are great for travel and building a wardrobe in general. Be sure to check out everything new for fall at Chico’s!
