The art of the written letter

write letters

Pink rose stationary / pen (gift from my Grandmother in the 1980’s, also love this pen)

When was the last time you wrote a letter, on stationary, by hand? I know, it’s been a long time! I have to admit, I miss the days of shopping for pretty stationary, and then writing a meaningful letter to a friend or family member. Plus, it was always fun to find a letter from someone, to me, in my mailbox! After all, the only mail we get these days are bills and advertisements. There is never anything fun in my mailbox!

You may have heard the news about the post office having financial troubles. Of course, this news isn’t new. It just happens to pop up every few years when something financial is going on with the economy. The post office has been hurting since society switched over to email from written letters, as well as online billing instead of paper billing. Couple that with delivering packages for Internet companies for pennies on the dollar, and our post office isn’t running with healthy financial books!

Let’s bring back the written letter!

The written letter is something everyone can benefit from. We can enjoy writing something special to a friend or family member, they can receive our beautiful letters, and the post office gets $0.55 for each stamp we use. It’s win/win! If we do this together, we will receive letters back while helping the post office! Then it will be fun going to the mailbox again. Love that!

Are you wondering what to write about? When I was in college, I used to write letters to my friends from home. We used to write letters to each other once a week. The letters recapped my week, and weekend. I would ask questions about their activities, and answer questions they had about mine. Some letters would be front and back, while others would be front, back, and multiple pages! In some cases, a letter might need two stamps! It was always fun to receive letters like this too. I loved going to my mailbox and finding a letter from my friend. I would open it before I got back inside my dorm or apartment. I would start reading it immediately as I walked towards a chair to sit on. Letters were exciting, and a great way to stay connected to my friends and family members. After reading a letter, I would re-read some parts, and then immediately grab a piece of stationary and start writing back. I would literally drop everything I was doing to respond to a letter. It was fun and meaningful. I miss those days.

Yes, we can all continue to stay connected via social media, texting, and emails; but wouldn’t it be fun to add back written letters? Plus, we are all social distancing, and some of us are still sheltering-in-place. Writing a letter, is a great way to add a personal touch to staying connected right now. Let’s do this!

I just bought this stationary online to start writing letters to my friends and family members. Here are some more fabulous stationary kits online to get your letter writing started!

Chanel summer 2020 Coco Rouge Flash lipstick collection from top left:  Chanel Easy / Chanel Amour / Chanel Dominant / Chanel Move / (from photos below) bold gold earrings (great for video conference calls!) / blue puff sleeve top / bold ring / summer nail polish /

The Chanel summer 2020 lipstick collection is here! While there are several additional colors than what I have featured here, these are the colors I like best; so they are the ones I am sharing with you.

You can see the full Chanel summer 2020 lipstick collection below:

The colors in Chanel’s lipstick collection for summer 2020 are darker than one would expect; especially since the summer nail polish collection is bright and cheery! The Chanel lipstick collection for summer 2020 features hues which are on the darker side than we expected for the warm summer season. The colors are actually dark enough to pass for fall! This makes the collection a good investment since the colors can be worn now, and well into the fall season. Love that!

Without further ado, here are my four favorite hues from the Chanel summer 2020 lipstick collection:

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash summer 2020: Chanel Easy lipstick

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash summer 2020: Chanel Move lipstick

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash summer 2020: Chanel Amour lipstick

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash summer 2020: Chanel Dominant lipstick

The four colors I chose are on the dark side, making them great for summer evenings, as well as video conferencing calls. After all, dark lipstick always seems to look better on video conference calls!

For everyday wear, and daytime wear, I love Chanel Easy. It is definitely my favorite hue from the summer 2020 collection. Chanel Move is my favorite color for video calls. It has a brighter look, which seems more in line with the season.

Please note: Chanel Dominant, Chanel Move, and Chanel Amour are all sold in a three pack together. This gives you a classic red, a dark evening hue, and a great color for video calls and daytime wear. I think it’s the perfect trio of lipsticks for summer. These colors will also work well in the fall season, so they have longevity. Love!

Santa Teresa County Park Joice Trail

One of the few things we can do right now is go hiking. Thankfully, my family enjoys a good hike! We decided to check out a new trail, which I heard was filled with wildflowers this time of year. While not filled with a ton of wildflowers, Joice Trail in Santa Teresa County Park offered pretty views of southern San Jose, some hefty elevation, and pretty foliage.

One of the things we enjoyed about Joice Trail was the fact that the county has safety practices in place in order to ensure everyone can enjoy some outdoor fitness in the park while practing proper social distancing. We felt really safe and secure taking our kids on the trail. Love that!

As you can see above, Santa Clara County placed signage in strategic locations in the park to remind everyone to remain six feet apart, and to walk single file on the trails. In addition to these safeguards, Joice Trail is wider than most hiking trails in the area, allowing plenty of room to safely pass people.

We arrived at the trail-head at 9am, and hiked for a little over an hour with the kids. I definitely felt winded since I have only been walking, and working out at home. for the last five weeks. This hike made me not only miss hiking on a more regular basis, it made me miss the gym! I cannot wait for the gym to reopen. I miss spin classes! But I digress. . .let’s chat about this pretty trail. Check out these views.

It was a foggy morning, which is always nice and comfortable while hiking. This trail does not have a lot of shade, if you go during full sun, be sure to wear a sun hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. If you can go in the morning, you are more likely to have weak sun, fog, or some clouds.

Joice Trail in Santa Teresa County Park is a wide trail, this makes it an easy trail for biking and dog walking too. We felt very comfortable walking single file and sharing space with dog walkers and bikes. There was plenty of room for everyone to safely pass one another while maintaining proper social distancing. Love that!

If you are local to the San Francisco Bay Area, be sure to check out Joice Trail! You can catch the trailhead on Manila Drive, where there is plenty of street parking; the lot is very small. You can check out a map on SCCgov.org. For more information about the park and trail, please visit SCCgov.org.

I highly recommend this trail! Thank you so much for stopping by, happy hiking and stay safe!
