Fall 2021 capsule wardrobe

Fall 2021 capsule wardrobe from left: chunky cardigan sweater / beige puff sleeve tee (under$50) / long sleeve black tee (under $100) / pink scarf (under $100) / green asymmetrical hem pleated skirt / large hoop earrings (under $100) / green statement earrings / mint statement earrings (sold out, similar here) / bracelets (under $50, local designer) / black jeans / dark wash distressed jeans / (not pictured-was wearing when I took the photo-oops!) snake buckle belt / (not pictured-puff sleeve black tee )

In case you noticed, my fall capsule wardrobe is trimmed down this season. This is due to the fact that I lost close to thirty pounds since April. Yes, you read that correctly! I have lost exactly twenty-eight pounds since April.

My weight has been creeping up over the last several years, and my doctor finally read me the riot act. She put me on a diet! I am glad she did, because I am back to my normal weight, and my older clothing fits! That being said, the clothing pieces you have seen me wear over the past few years are all way too big on me now.

My hope in moving towards capsule wardrobes each season was to reduce my purchases, and have a more sustainable closet. In keeping with this spirit, my fall capsule wardrobe is small this season because I am starting over! I have had to purchase new jeans and tee’s which fit me. So the next couple seasons, I will be re-building my wardrobe; little by little! The clothing that is too big now, I am donating to charity.

So, in order to start over, I purchased these dark wash denim jeans earlier this month, as well as these black jeans for the cool weather season. They are perfect for the fall season, and will also work well into the holiday and winter seasons.

I love fashionable tee’s! My fabulous, puff sleeve tee’s from the last few seasons are way too big now; I look like I am swimming in them. Therefore, I need to re-build my tee wardrobe. I am starting with this beige, puff sleeve tee which is ideal for fall, and also this long sleeve black tee since it is basic, and will carry me through fall, winter, and the holiday season.

What if I need to dress up? Ah! My dresses are huge, so if I need a dress, I will buy one when the time comes. In the meantime, this pleated green skirt, with an asymmetrical hemline, is perfect for the fall and holiday seasons. I love the movement it offers and the emerald green hue. I hope to pick up another top to wear with it this season, but in the meantime, I will wear this puff sleeve black top, and a pair of heels.

Oversize, chunky cardigan sweaters are hotter than hot this fall season, so this neutral hued cardigan will be perfect for keeping me cozy during the cooler months. Love it!

Late summer casual

california casual street style san jose

Wearing: sunglasses / white drop earrings / fall lipstick / stripe tee (under $50) / black hobo bag / gemstone bracelets (local San Jose designer!) / fall nail polish / snake buckle belt / fall jeans / grey boat shoes /

Recognize this tee? It has been one of my favorite go-to tee’s of the season! It’s very soft and comfortable, plus, the puff sleeves make it right on trend. The runways were full of statement and puff sleeves, so this tee is fabulous for everyday wear. Love that!

I wore my favorite tee to go out to lunch with my friend Dawn from Fashion Should be Fun. My outfit combines some fall items with a few summer items for a transition from summer into fall look. Dawn did the same thing, and she looks fabulous! As you can see, street style here in California offers up an on-trend tee paired with destroyed jeans, in a fall color, and a fabulous IT bag.

Dawn and I met at Valley Fair mall to check out what’s coming in for fall, and also to enjoy a yummy lunch. We ate at King’s Fish House and enjoyed sushi, edamame, and soup. Love!

In addition to delicious food and checking out the new fall merchandise, Valley Fair had an Instagram-ready, vintage van set up outside the restaurant. Um, did they know we were coming? We were so excited! As you can tell, we used it as our backdrop for a few pictures. We made sure to stand “purse first” so you could see which IT bags are hot in Silicon Valley right now. Seriously, YSL and Prada are EVERYWHERE on the street here!

Pismo Beach day 2

wearing: sunglasses / lipstick / earrings / puff sleeve tee (under $50) / cross body bag / bracelets / fall nail polish / linen joggers / espadrille mules /

On our second day in Pismo Beach, we decided to check out Cal Poly and their famous hiking trail known as the Architecture Graveyard. We woke up early, grabbed breakfast, and then by 8:30am, we were in our car heading up to Cal Poly; which my oldest daughter was excited about since it is one of twenty schools she is interested in attending next year. I am pretty sure we cannot visit them all, but I digress. . .

Poly Canyon Trail aka Architecture Graveyard Cal Poly

wearing: sunglasses / workout tee / fall nail polish / cardigan / cross body bag / wide leg leggings (old, also love this pair) / hiking boots (old, also love these) /

The Architecture Graveyard is located on the Poly Canyon Trail. This trail begins as a service road, and roughly one mile in, you will find the entrance to the College of Architecture and Environmental Design’s trail.

This trail features work by Architecture and Engineering students which dates back to the 1960s. It’s interesting to see how architecture has changed from mid-century modern to now. One thing we found disappointing was the amount of graffiti and vandalism on many of the projects. It’s sad that people would come in and harm projects students created. Despite the vandalism, we could still picture the original intent of the projects, many of which would translate extremely well into real life. Of course, some are merely artistic.

Hiking on this trail was fantastic with the kids. They were having fun checking out the works, and didn’t notice how much hiking they actually did! Our round trip hike was well over two miles; much more then I get my kids to hike on a regular hiking trail. Love that! I highly recommend checking out this trail if you visit the area.

Downtown San Luis Obispo

After our hike, we were hungry! We headed over to Downtown San Luis Obispo and to Firestone Grill for lunch. This restaurant was recommended by the valet at our hotel, Vespera Resort on Pismo Beach. He steered us in the right direction! They had delicious lunch options which were all generous in size. The side of fries alone could feed a family of five! We were very full after lunch. I highly recommend checking this place out when you are in SLO. It’s delicious and reasonably priced. Love!

With our bellies full, we took a short walk around downtown, and then did a self-guided tour around the mission; which is beautiful. I recommend checking out this important part of California history if you visit SLO.

When we were done touring downtown, we headed back to Pismo Beach, and rested for a short bit in our hotel. Then, we headed downstairs for dinner at the Somerset Grill in our hotel, which was delicious! I enjoyed a salmon dinner with lentils and mushrooms. Yum!

After dinner, we walked around the beach and pier. We discovered there was a height ruler on the edge of the “P” of the Pismo Beach sign by the pier. We had fun seeing our heights with shoes on. I love how shoes add a couple inches. We all felt so tall! haha
